Day 1: The Journey Begins | Islamabad to Gilgit or Jaglot

  • The alarm goes off at an hour when most people are still deep asleep. But we are not most people. We are going to Hunza.
  • We’ll pick everyone up from Islamabad at 1:00 AM. If you’re coming from Lahore, Karachi, or another city, make sure you reach Islamabad by midnight.
  • Once everyone is on board, we’ll do a quick introduction. After all, these strangers are going to become your travel family for the next five days.
  • Then we hit the road. We’ll drive through Balakot and Kaghan and reach Naran around 7:00–8:00 AM for breakfast. After breakfast and a little rest, we’ll continue towards Babusar Top.
  • If time and conditions allow, you can try rafting in the Kunhar River. We’ll also stop at Lulusar Lake and, of course, there will be a chai stop at Babusar Top because no mountain trip is complete without chai.
  • By evening, we’ll reach Jaglot or Gilgit, have dinner and finally get some proper rest.
  • We’ll stop for Salah throughout the journey and encourage everyone to pray together in Jamaat wherever possible.
  • Now, a small warning about Day 1. This will probably be the most tiring day of the trip. It’s a long drive, and yes, you might question your life choices somewhere between Naran and Gilgit.
  • Just be patient, enjoy the views, sleep whenever you can and pray for khair along the way.
  • And if Babusar is closed because of weather, we’ll simply take the Besham–Kohistan–Chilas route instead. The route may change, but the adventure continues.

Day 2: The Beautiful Lakes of Naltar Valley

  • After yesterday’s long drive, we’ll start the morning with Fajr.
  • We’ll also have a short Quran reminder before breakfast. Then it’s time to get moving again.
  • After breakfast, we’ll drive towards Nomal village. This is where things get interesting.
  • We’ll leave our coaster behind and jump into 4x4 jeeps for Naltar Valley.
  • The jeep ride itself is an experience. The road gets rough, the views get better, and everyone suddenly becomes an expert photographer.
  • Our first stops will be Satrangi Lake and Blue Lake.
  • Then we’ll take an easy 25-minute hike to Feroza Lake. It’s not the kind of hike that requires you to train for six months, so relax.
  • Once we reach the lake, take your time. Look around, take pictures and enjoy the mountains.
  • In the evening, we’ll leave Naltar and head towards Hunza.
  • Dinner, hotel, a short reminder session and some much-needed rest. Tomorrow, we go deeper into Hunza.

Day 3: Hussaini Bridge, Passu & China Border

  • Today is one of those days where you’ll probably have your phone out all day.
  • After Fajr and our morning Quran reminder, we’ll get on the Karakoram Highway and start our journey towards Khunjerab.
  • Our first big stop is the famous Hussaini Suspension Bridge.
  • You can cross it if you’re feeling brave. Or you can stand at the side, take pictures and tell everyone you crossed it anyway. We won’t investigate.
  • From there, we continue towards Khunjerab Pass, the Pakistan-China border.
  • On the way, we’ll stop at the stunning Passu Cones. These mountains are huge, dramatic and almost too perfect to look real.
  • Eventually, we’ll reach Khunjerab. It’s going to be cold, so bring your warm clothes. Seriously. Don’t be the person standing there in a light jacket saying, “I thought it wouldn’t be this cold.”
  • After spending some time at the border, we’ll head back towards Attabad Lake.
  • Tonight, we’ll stay by the lake.
  • After a full day of mountains, roads and sightseeing, it will be the perfect place to slow down, have dinner and relax.

Day 4: Forts, Karimabad & The Road Back

  • Our Hunza morning starts with Fajr and our usual Quran reminder.
  • Then we head out to explore some of Hunza’s history.
  • We’ll visit Altit/Baltit Forts and spend some time around Karimabad Bazaar.
  • This is your chance to walk around, explore the local shops, grab some souvenirs and probably spend money you told yourself you wouldn’t spend.
  • After enjoying our morning in Hunza, we start the journey back towards Naran.
  • We’ll stop at the Rakaposhi View Point and take in the incredible view of Rakaposhi.
  • Then we continue towards Babusar Top and Lulusar Lake.
  • If you missed rafting on Day 1, you may get another chance at the Kunhar River, depending on the weather, timing and river conditions.
  • By evening, we’ll reach Naran, where we’ll have dinner and spend the night.
  • And if Babusar is closed, no problem. We’ll take the alternate route and spend the night in Chilas instead.

Day 5: One Last Lake & Back to Islamabad

  • Nobody wants the trip to end, but we still have one more place to see.
  • We’ll start with Fajr and our final Quran reminder of the trip.
  • Those who want to visit Saif-ul-Maluk Lake can take a jeep early in the morning.
  • If you’d rather take it easy, you can explore Naran Bazaar, grab breakfast and enjoy your last few hours in the mountains.
  • After breakfast, we’ll start our journey back to Islamabad.
  • We’ll make stops along the way, including Kiwai Waterfall and suitable rest areas, so everyone can stretch, eat something and freshen up.
  • By evening, we expect to be back in Islamabad.
  • And just like that, five days will be over. Five days of long drives, mountain roads, lakes, jeeps, chai, sleepy mornings, random conversations, new friendships and probably hundreds of pictures that you’ll keep scrolling through for weeks.
  • But hopefully, you’ll take back something more than pictures.
  • A little more peace. A few good memories. Some new friends. And a reminder of just how beautiful Allah’s creation is.
  • The road may be long. The days may be tiring. But that’s what makes the journey worth remembering.
